Things I've gotten used to in Canada

An ever growing list:

  • Looking left when crossing the street
  • Yellow school buses
  • People looking at me weirdly when I greet them with 'kia ora'
  • Canadians sounding like Australians when they imitate the New Zealand accent
  • Filthy, diseased-looking squirrels everywhere
  • Maple leaves
  • Not paying what the price is, because tax is added on top
  • Then calculating what 15% of the price is in my head, in order to pay a tip on top again!
  • One way streets all over the place - a dream for jay walking!
  • Dual packaging and billboards (French)
  • Asking for a key to go to the toilet : (
  • Public transport actually being good
  • Drivers stopping their cars when you jaywalk anywhere
  • Newly met people asking me if I know Flight of the Conchords
  • Buying main household supplies from the 'drug store' - actually
  • Getting a tonne of change in one or five cent pieces : (
  • People thinking my name is Mitt or Mett or Nit.
  • Pronouncing words with an accentuated 'R'...eg. Butterrrrrr, Charrrrrrlotte, Weirrrrrrd
  • People on the street asking me for 25 cents to fix a medical problem

Boom!
